A day to forget! 12 goals conceded and very few redeeming features. Captain Alex was nominated opposition man of the match for some promising runs and a free-kick just outside of the box which hit the bar. The parents chose not to award a parents' man of the match.
In fairness, the opposition were very strong but as so often happens, all the good things the boys produce at training simply go out of the window when they step over the line in a match. For example, the shape is lost, three men go for the same ball and we lose composure in front of goal.
A defeat like this has a big impact on confidence and so the coaches feel that a change of approach is required. We feel that trying to fit all 12 players (who are different levels of skill, positional awareness and concentration) into a game is not helping and the flow is interrupted with each change. The intention is therefore to announce a squad of a smaller group of players for each match and a letter will be provided to the parents with more details.
