Season 2008-09 was the first season of competitive football for AC Raiders. And after a three nil defeat to the eventual division runners up, they went on to start the season well, with some great performances producing some exellent passing football.
Richard Palmer and Richard Hall took charge of the team and guided it with a steady hand. AC had some cracking games against teams such as Whiteleas Barcalona, Whiteleas Brazil, Ryhope and Jarrow Blues. The game with Jarrow Blues played just after the enforced winter break was a cracker, with AC winning 3-2 and Sam U grabbing a hat-trick.
At the clubs presentation night in May, Daniel Ha won the player of the year Trophy for some fantastic defensive displays throughout the season and Coner T clinched the most improved player award for a season where he just kept getting better and better. Sam U ended up top scorer - an achevement that also saw him nominated for the Chase Holmes League, Division 1, player of the year award. The season ended as it began, with AC the beaten finalists in the Whiteleas tournament Bronze Cup. All AC players should be proud of their commitment, skill and effort. The parents must also be praised for their fantastic support.
